President Gerald Ford Has Died

Thirty-Eighth President
1974-1977

Born: July 14, 1913 in Omaha, Nebraska

Died: December 26, 2006 in Rancho Mirage, California

At the age of 93, former President Gerald Ford died yesterday. President Ford served the remainder of President Richard Nixon’s term of office after the Watergate Scandal and subsequent impeachment hearings led to President Nixon’s resignation.

During his term in office President Ford  dealt with several national crisis, of which healing the nation’s political divisions was no small matter. President Ford handled that challenage as gracefully  and skillfully as he handled the inflation and subsequent recession that gripped America as a result of the War in Vietnam.

I think one of President Ford’s greatest acts was the “full pardon” President Ford gave to former President Richard Nixon for the crimes brought against him in the impeachment hearings.

Ford  continued as he had in his Congressional days to view himself as “a moderate in domestic affairs, a conservative in fiscal affairs, and a dyed-in-the-wool internationalist in foreign affairs.”

Across the nation and from all over the world, outpourings of condolences have been offered as President Ford is remembered and grieved by the nation and his family.
