American troops save an abandoned baby!

American troops in the Logistical Support Area Anaconda in Balad were out on patrol and found an abandoned baby. They heard a baby cry and noticed a box at the side of the road. After determining that the box was not in fact a bomb or IED, one of the troops grabbed the box on the run as a safe guard.

Once a safe distance from the original site where the box lay, the troops checked and found that there was indeed a baby inside. The baby was evaluated on site and found to be emaciated. Orders started flying! The tiny precious package and the troops were soon loaded into their trucks.

The troops then proceeded to make a mad cap dash for the nearest hospital in an effort to save the baby’s life. On the way to Balad Air Base hospital the troops did everything they could to keep the baby comfortable. Each held their breath as she rolled her eyes back in here head, certain she wouldn’t make-it.

She was promptly given life saving care at Balad Air Base hospital and soon recovered to the point the hospital was able to take the precious cargo to the local Iraqi hospital.

“In all this mess of arresting people, killing people and getting blown up, finally something good has come out of it, Smith said. Hopefully as a result, God will bless us for the next few months we are here.

The baby was reunited with his mother June 19. The mother of the child told Iraqi Police she left the child in her daughter’s care. The daughter was carrying the baby on the road near the LSA when she was chased by wild dogs and left the baby so she could run faster, according to reports given to Capt. Lance Awbrey, commander, Battery B, 3rd Battalion, 29th Field Artillery.”
