Free Beer anyone?

Looking back through the news of the past week I found a great little story. In Kristiandsund, western Norway, Haldis Gundersen had a surprisingly awesome experience. It was Saturday and her family had finished the evening meal. She decided to clean up some of the mess from cooking. But when she turned her faucet on, beer came out instead of water. Clearly some people have all the luck. Haldis said she couldn’t drink the beer because it was flat. She must be in the thirty plus crowd. When I used to drink in my younger, more foolish years, if it was free, I drank it. I guess us Marines aren’t just the “best” we’re the “toughest.”

I don’t think I’ll ever forget the weekend poker nights when I was in the Corps. We bought beer and white ripple and hid it under our racks on the other side of our foot lockers. Then we bought “Teem,” dumped out the bottle and refilled it with a combination of white ripple and beer. It was a cheaper drunk during those broke days just before pay day. Lights out was later on the weekends so we could play for quite long time. The Teem bottle kept the Security guard and DNCO from catching us drinking in the barracks.

Oh, by the way, Haldis lived in a building that had a bar downstairs. Imagine the owners shock! A customer ordered a “draft.” The bartender pulled the handle to pour a draft for the customer and he got a glass full of water. I just loved this story!
