President Gives Speech on Iraq

President Bush gave a very good speech this morning. He was open about the problems in Iraq. But he also warned that setbacks are to be expected. He even gave examples of the problems encountered in our own quest for Democracy. I did not know that our military chased around the Congress for six months trying to get them to pay the soldiers their salary.

I think his speech was one of his best. He did a great job of pointing out the points of contention here at home. He also made it plain that the terrorists could not defeat our military in open battle. That we could only lose in the arena of public opinion. But, he very boldly said that this would never happen during his presidency.

He challenged those who criticized his Iraqi efforts. He then went on to list the “status quo” in the Middle East that led to attacks on our embassies and the USS Cole. I agree. He was right on target. He issued a challenge to Hamas about meeting the promises that were made during their election campaign or risk getting canned in the next election! He also put Iran on notice by requesting money to support the Iranian people who are trying to remove the religious extremist minority from power and set up a Democratic government in Iran.

Meanwhile our troops leveled a big blow to the terrorists when they killed one of their major leaders. I agree with the President. The terrorists are blowing up Mosques to start a civil war. They are now kidnapping “children” of major Iraqi leaders because the spineless cowards can’t or won’t fight out in the open. They are losing and they know it. Otherwise, why are they destroying Mosques and kidnapping children?

Certainly these are the acts of desperate and cowardly men.

The President had the highest praise for our troops. He also said the military in the field, not political figures in Washington, would control the needs of our troops in Iraq. Yeah Mr. President! Well, Mr. Terrorist, why don’t you just admit you’ve gotten your ass kicked and pick up your marble’s go home? You have lost! Once you start bombing the mosques and killing children, you can bet that the Iraqi will also kick your asses too. You have crossed the wrong line. Now you will pay! You have broken your own rules. How will you justify your cowardly acts to the Iraqi now? Do you really think the Iraqi will embrace you and your ideology now that they have tasted Democracy? You kid yourself!
